Church Books

The old handwritten book guided church is often the only witness to our ancestors and the sole source for those interested in history.

The records were written mostly in chronological order of the pastors / priests and contain entries about weddings, births, and funerals of people, regardless of class, wealth or gender, often with work and residence.

In the German Reich on 01 06 1876, church records were replaced as official register by the registry offices.

Waiting periods

Baptismal records 110 years

Confirmation tab 75 years

Wedding books 80 years

Funeral books 30 years

Our genealogist page you can find books provided digitally, by research.

We genealogists stuck our noses in dusty books, files, documents, and have a flair for detail. Historical make alive, that is our goal. Of course, many files are written in an illegible old German handwriting. In the old church records of birth often is registered only with the baptism date. Document is most often not the death, but the funeral and change the proper names from year to year. At the beginning of the books we often find the 'u' is written as 'w' or written a fad with the 'i' as 'y'.
